In 1922 a small organ was presented to the Abbey as a memorial to the lately deceased Teresa Smith. Over the years it was enlarged as the Abbey Church took shape. Finally in 1947 a major renewal was undertaken by Messrs J.Walker and Mr Ralph Downes, former organist at Brompton Oratory in London and also designer of the organ for the Festival Hall, supervised the whole work which took five years to complete.
