There are three shops at Buckfast Abbey which each specialise in a different type of product so that a wide range of visitors’ aspirations are provided for. Many people visit the Abbey with the aim of seeking out some particular item in one or other of the shops. But you are welcome simply to browse - we’re pretty confident you will make some interesting discoveries.

The Gift Shop holds a great variety of high-quality gift items, ranging from small souvenirs well within the reach of a youngster’s pocket money to substantial pieces which would grace any home and great ideas for that special gift. The Bookshop maintains a very large collection of books on religious subjects, from works of academic theology to highly readable ‘food for the spirit.’ There is also a section dedicated to children’s books and toys, beautiful cards for many occasions and substantial holdings of religious items including crucifixes and rosaries. The Monastic Produce Shop is the most recent addition to this group of facilities. It was established with the aim of providing for the visitor the opportunity to see and to purchase products originating from monasteries and convents throughout the world, many of which are made by the monks and nuns themselves.

Extensive research was carried out before the shop first opened and we are always on the look-out for different products to carry. The result is an already remarkable range of high quality goods: Besides tonic wine and fudge and beeswax products from Buckfast there are icons, bronze and religious art, soaps and cosmetics, jams, preserves and cordials, beer, wine and liqueurs, biscuits, prunes - even fertilizer for your garden!

Countries of origin currently represented include France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Austria, and Cameroon as well as the UK. Most of the products are imported directly from the producer, so making the goods on sale a unique and fascinating collection. [ Monastic Shop News ]
