Job Title: - Cleaner

Location: Buckfast, Devon

Hours of Work: This position will be 16 hours per week, mornings to start at 0700, weekend rota

Contract type: Permanent part time

Wage: £10.04 per hour (aged 21 and over) / £8.94 per hour (aged 18 to 20 yrs)

Reporting to: Cleaning and Laundry Supervisor

Background

Buckfast Abbey is home to a Benedictine Community of monks with the Abbey Church and facilities. It has a manufacturing plant, multiple retail outlets, restaurant, a conference centre, education department and a broad range of guest accommodation.

The original Abbey was founded on its current site around 1018 and grew into a large flourishing monastic complex with some substantial Guest Halls. 


Responsibilities

You will be responsible for cleaning areas across the site, as directed. These will range from canteens to offices and to public toilets.

The job will require some lone working as well as working with other members of the team

The job will require some weekend work on a rota system, one in three.


Person specification - Essential qualities

  • Physical stamina are valued greatly in this job as some lifting will be required.
  • Punctual, thorough, efficient, and well organised.
  • Willingness to work outside.
  • To be versatile enough to work in several different capacities around the site.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, under direction from the Supervisor, or other designated manger.
  • A positive attitude is a must and an ability to use initiative.
  • Good communication skills to respond promptly and positively to requests.
  • The position will require you to work independently (as well as within a team) so self-motivation is very important.
  • An empathy with the Catholic ethos of the site.


Person Specification – Desirable qualities

  • Previous experience of cleaning 
  • Previous experience using cleaning equipment 
  • Knowledge of related health and safety.
  • Knowledge of COSHH requirements
  • A driving license is desirable but not essential
  • A willingness to learn
