Job Title: - Deputy Accommodation Manager

Salary: £12.40 per hour (£25,792pa based on 40hr week)

Hours of Work: 5 day working week to include varied shifts, weekends, evenings and days

Responsible to Accommodation Manager 


Buckfast Abbey is home to a Benedictine Community, a manufacturing plant, multiple retail outlets, conference facility and multiple guest accommodation facilities. 


Our latest guest accommodation Northgate House is a 30-bedroom accommodation facility which adds to our already diverse guest accommodation options. Hospitality is central to the Benedictine tradition and the Deputy Accommodation Manager is integral to supporting that mission by ensuring that service levels in our accommodation are of a very high standard for all guests.


As Deputy Accommodation Manager you will play a pivotal part of the management team, taking the business to the next level. Reporting directly to the Accommodation Manager you will lead from the front ensuring the successful daily running of the site. You will display a clear passion for leading, motivating and developing high performing, competent and motivated teams, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, making us the most loved hotel brand.


You will manage the activities of the Hotel to improve productivity, food quality, service and merchandising to increase volume, sales and profits.  Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards.  Specifically:

Prepare and review an annual business plan focusing on revenue uplift, external sales activity, increases in guest satisfaction scores and margin profitability

Support the effective operational management of the Hotel and work with the Accommodation Manager to achieve and exceed their revenue and guest satisfaction targets

Oversee the managing, training and the developing of the food and beverage team

Maintain a constant awareness of department security especially related to cash, stock and equipment and to ensure all department procedures are fully adhered to

Ensure adherence to licensing laws and training all the staff in this law

Complete any reasonable request by senior management and deputise for the Accommodation Manager when they are out of the Hotel

Assist the development of meaningful and achievable Hotel budgets and other short and long term Hotel strategic goals

Manage the day to day running of the site, empowering and developing our people to be the best and deliver the best, making the most of your resources and growing talent

Drive commercial best practice, maximise on revenue opportunities, work with the Accommodation Manager to manage controllable costs and labour control

Oversee all business areas with an eye for detail.  Ensure standards are consistently delivered while utilising guest feedback to increase performance

Support the Accommodation Manager in delivering the site business plan, supporting and enabling the bigger picture

Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety compliance and manage all audit processes to a high standard

Be agile in your thinking and effectively manage your time to meet business needs

Display a proactive an innovative approach to skills development and standards enhancement with your team

To carry out appraisals in line with the organisation's policy

To assist with the induction and training of new team members and other new members of staff as appropriate 


Strong commercial acumen, preferably with experience in food and beverage

In-depth knowledge of the hotel/leisure/service sector

Strong leadership skills to effectively manage and motivate the team to achieve high level of performance and exceed targets

Accountable and resilient

Ability to work under pressure

Knowledge of the hotel property management systems

Previous experience in the same or similar role

Knowledge of health and safety procedures

Attention to detail

A discreet and confidential manner that reflects a high level of integrity

Effective organisation skills and the ability to manage time effectively

An empathy with the Catholic ethos of the site 


Experience in managing budgets, revenue proposals and forecasting results

Knowledge and practical experience of using Rezlynz Guestline
