Job Title: - Housekeeper

Salary: £8.75 per hour (other rates apply for those under 21 years of age)

Hours of Work: 5 day working week to include weekends

Shift starts approximately 9.30am – 3.00/4.00pm

Responsible to Accommodation Manager/Supervisor


Buckfast Abbey is home to a Benedictine Community, a manufacturing plant, multiple retail outlets, conference facility and multiple guest accommodation facilities.


Our latest guest accommodation Northgate House is a 30-bedroom accommodation facility which adds to our already diverse guest accommodation options. Hospitality is central to the Benedictine tradition and the Housekeepers are integral to supporting that mission by ensuring that bedrooms and communal areas re cleaned to a very high standard for all guests.


To be responsible for cleaning the guest rooms and bathrooms and other areas of the accommodation to high standards set by Buckfast Abbey.


The Housekeeper will be responsible for performing routine duties in cleaning and servicing of guest rooms and bathrooms under the supervision of the Accommodation Manager/Supervisor.  The Housekeeper is expected to promote a positive image of the property to guests and must be pleasant, honest, and friendly and should also be able and willing to address guest requests and problems.


To enter and prepare the guest rooms for cleaning

To change and make beds

To dust the room and furniture

To clean the bathrooms, corridors and shared areas such as kitchens and lounges

To clean the closet

To vacuum carpets

To complete checks and secure the rooms

To deliver and retrieve items on loan to guests, eg iron and ironing boards

To ensure the security of guests and the privacy of guests

To perform a rotation of cleaning duties (eg steam clean carpets, spring cleaning, super cleaning etc) as required

To be responsible for the replenishment of guest complimentary items and bath supplies

To be responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the work area

To be responsible for the ~Abbey property in the work area

To attend to guest calls, guest requests/guest complaints in the area assigned to them

To be responsible for following the standard operating procedures

To be responsible for achieving and exceeding the guest satisfaction

To have a full understanding of the guesthouse's fire and safety procedures, COSHH to ensure safety of all staff and guests, at all times

To comply with the Abbey's policies regarding the following:

Fire, Health and Safety, Food Hygiene, Security


Professional attitude

Ability to work  independently based on agreed shift times

A discreet and confidential manner that reflects a high level of integrity

Effective organisation skills and the ability to manage time effectively

To be willing to attend training relevant to the nature of your duties and the organisation

Physical mobility and stamina required

Ability to follow instruction

Attention to detail

An empathy with the Catholic ethos of the site


Previous Housekeeper experience in an hotel style environment

Knowledge of health and safety procedures

Full clean driving licence
