An exciting event for all ages with some of the country's best storytellers and performers.

To celebrate the Abbey’s Millennium, the Education Department will be hosting the second ever Buckfast Abbey Storytelling Festival. It will be a 4-day festival from the 5th-8th July 2018.The 5th and 6th will be School Days when we will be welcoming around 700 children a day from schools across Devon to take part in workshops with our extremely talented storytellers and performers. The 7th and 8th will be Family Days with activities going on across the site and sessions with storytellers and performers all throughout the day. Sunday the 8th will feature a full length play “The First King of England…in a Dress!” from theatre company Snail Tales about King Cnut (who founded Buckfast Abbey) and will also have specialised relaxed sessions with the storytellers, ideal for those with special needs.

On Saturday the 7th we will also be running “Telling Tales: Learn to be a Storyteller”, a course run by Elizabeth Baker of Tillytoo Tales. Build confidence and learn practical skills in the art of creating and telling stories.
