Planting trees for the Queen’s Green Canopy

To celebrate Her Majesty’s remarkable milestone, the Platinum Jubilee, we were pleased to welcome children from St Mary’s School to Buckfast Abbey, to help plant a variety of new trees for the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative. Catch up on BBC Radio Devon’s David Fitzgerald’s show here to learn more.

The Mini Vinnies of St Mary’s School have been extremely helpful with assisting on a number of projects here at the Abbey, so we were pleased to invite them along to help with the planting of several silver birch, English oaks, romans, crab apples, blackthorn and traditional woodland trees last month with Fr Abbot, the Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, Robin Barlow, Estate Manager Aaron Bray, and Head Groundsman, Peter Hague.

The new trees will be blessed by Fr Abbot in a special ceremony on 19thMay.
