Saint Boniface House is the converted Buckfast Abbey Farm buildings situated on the old A38 between Buckfast and Ashburton
St. Mary's House is a place of discernment situated just outside the monastic enclosure. It is for men who wish to consider their vocation, whether as a monk, diocesan priest \ deacon, or as a lay person.
The day was organised by the South West Ordinariate. A group of the Ordinariate is based at Buckfast Abbey.
A few pictures to show part of the extensive cleaning and restoration work being done on the Abbey Church - inside and out. While this work is being carried out a new floor is being laid to replace the temporary concrete floor.
Part of the garden of St. Mary's House has been given to St. Mary's Catholic School for a playground. During the creation of the playground a medieval barn was uncovered that was within the outer court of the pre-reformation Buckfast Abbey.
Pilgrimage with the South West members of the Society of Our Lady of Lourdes. Father Abbot celebrated Mass in the undercroft Chapel of St. Joseph of Arimathea. Above this before the destruction of the Abbey after the reformation, was the shrine of Our Lady of Glastonbury. The Choir of Buckfast Abbey provided music for the Mass.
Autumn Term 2012. Two youth orchestras spent half term at Buckfast staying in Grangehurst House and using the Schiller Hall, part of the St. Cuthbert Conference Centre, for practice and performance.
The photographs show the area east of the Abbey Church along the river Dart. Also shown is a section of the canal used to channel water from the weir to the new Archimedes screw turbine which produces electricity for the monastery and many of its activities.
Voces are celebrating their 25th anniversary. They have sung in the Abbey Church on various occasions since 1987. We thank them for the wonderful contribution they have made to the Liturgy over the last quarter of a century.
A plainchant setting of the Mass - ordinary and proper - was rehearsed in the Chapter House and then sung at the daily Midday Mass in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. The morning was conducted by the Abbey's Director of Music.
Each year on the Solemnity of Christ the King exposition of the Blessed Sacrament occurs from the end of the 10:30 Mass until Vespers. Following a procession from the High Altar in the Abbey Church to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel the Community and Parish are given time for prayerful adoration.
The Royal School of Church Music (Devon Area) Annual Advent Carol Service. This service marks the beginning of the Advent Season at Buckfast and our meditation on the amazing gift of the Incarnation.
The Annual Buckfast Carol Service with Counterpoint, a choir directed by David Acres. Quite a number of the choir also sing in the Abbey Choir. The collection taken during the service is given to 'The Mustard Tree Macmillan Centre' at Derriford Hospital Plymouth - a cancer-patient support centre.
A number of pictures taken on Christmas Eve 2012. The interiors of the Abbey Church show some of the restoration work. The continuing work meant that the Crib needed to be sited next to the Lady Chapel in what is the North Aisle. St Michael's Chapel is being used for the Monastic Offices. Sunday and feastday Masses are still celebrated in the Abbey Church.
The photographs were taken at 15.00. Compare these with the Autumn at Buckfast pictures taken last November. The amount of water in the river is considerably greater. However the river can rise even higher on rare occasions.
