After a winter of fine-tuning, San Benedetto’s Pizzeria has reopened its doors – and this time, it’s not just for pizza lovers. Nestled in the Higher Mill, a stone’s throw from the Abbey gardens, the restaurant now welcomes guests Monday to Saturday, 10am–3pm for coffee and cake, and Friday to Saturday, 4pm–10pm for its much-loved pizzas.
Stepping into the Pizzeria is unique, reached by a low glass balustrade bridge that skims the surrounding moat, the building is a blend of old-world charm and modern hospitality. Inside, the open kitchen and bar face the light-filled restaurant, where the aromatic coffee machine burbles and steams, and a retro Vespa quietly claims the centre stage.
Traditional red-and-green tablecloths, paired with vintage posters of Italian vistas, echo the restaurant’s roots, while original stonework now frames the space into intimate dining areas. Each table is crowned with a low-hung Edison bulb – on spring evenings, they glow with a warm radiance, drawing the table together and casting a soft light across fresh-baked pizzas and antipasto plates. The menu also features small dishes like flatbreads, potato wedges, Italian salads and olives, perfect for sharing.
On a warm day, the outside seating becomes the natural choice. Facing the bold tower of the Abbey, it’s an ideal spot to sit with an espresso and a sweet treat.
With barista coffee and artisan cakes now being served in San Benedetto’s, it’s the place to enjoy a slower pace of life, whether you’re after a quiet morning break or a full evening of Italian hospitality.
