Service Times

Service Times at Buckfast Abbey and Parish

The monks celebrate the Divine Office and Mass together each day in the Abbey Church. All of these services are open to the public.

Besides being the monastic community’s church, Buckfast Abbey is a parish church within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Plymouth. The parish is in the care of the monks and parish Masses are celebrated in three Mass centres in neighbouring villages in addition to those in the Abbey itself. Below are listed both the monastic services and the parish services in the Abbey and the Mass centres. Occasionally, times of services are changed because of special circumstances and there are particular timetables at Christmas and Easter, so you may like to check the 'What's On' page for details of changes if you are thinking of attending, particularly if you have to travel some distance.

Due to the installation of the new Abbey Organ, the only part of the Divine Office that is available to the public is Vespers. This will be the case for the foreseeable future.

Buckfast Abbey Millennium Garden - May 2017

The Royal Horticultural Society 2017 - Malvern Spring Festival The garden setting is a tranquil scene. At the heart of the garden is a stag in a glade of silver birches drinking from a pool. Around this scene is a meandering path suggesting a river bed. The motto of the Abbey is taken from psalm 41/42: “As a deer longs for flowing streams, so longs my soul for you, O God.” The name Buckfast means ‘land of the deer’ and the Abbey is on the banks of the River Dart. The garden commemorates Buckfast Abbey’s upcoming millennium. The Buckfast Garden won thr RHS Show Garden SILVER MEDAL and also the BEST IN SHOW from the public vote.
