St Mary’s Catholic Primary School celebrates Our Lady of Buckfast as part of the Jubilee year theme: Pilgrims of Hope.
On May 23rd which was the nearest school day to the solemnity of Our Lady of Buckfast, the whole school made a pilgrimage through the Abbey grounds led by Fr Francis. The focus of the pilgrimage was a journey through the life of Mary in Scripture.

The rest of the celebration took place inside the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Flowers were laid by the children at the feet of the statue of Mary as a sign of our love and prayers. A crown of flowers was placed on her head to show that she is the Queen of Heaven and Our Mother full of love. Prayers were said and the hymn As I kneel before you was sung. The ceremony ended with a Blessing,
Year 6 pupils then went to the Lady Chapel to place flowers there and to each light a candle.
