Today, 28th January, we honour St Thomas Aquinas, a towering intellect of the 13th century whose wisdom continues to illuminate the Church. Born into nobility, Thomas pursued a vocation with the Dominican Order, dedicating his life to prayer, study, and teaching. Despite opposition, he remained steadfast, guided by an unshakable love for truth.
Known as the “Angelic Doctor,” Thomas’ synthesis of faith and reason bridged theology and philosophy, offering profound insights into the nature of God, humanity, and creation. His masterwork, the Summa Theologiae, remains a cornerstone of Catholic thought. Yet, his most enduring legacy lies in his Eucharistic devotion, expressed through hymns like Pange Lingua and Adoro Te Devote.
St Thomas reminds us that all true wisdom begins in wonder and leads to worship. May we seek truth with his humility and faith, that we too might echo his words: “Nothing but You, Lord.”
