MONDAY

Dixit Dóminus mino meo:

sede a dextris meis.

The Lord’s revelation to my Master:

          ‘Sit on my right:’

Donec ponam inicos tuos:

   scabéllum pedum tuórum.

your foes I will put beneath your feet.’

Virgam virtútis tuæ emíttet Dóminus ex Sion:

domináre in médio inimirum tuórum.

The Lord will wield from Sion, your sceptre of power:

rule in the midst of all your foes.

Tecum princípium in die virtútis tuæ
in splendóribus sanctórum:

ex útero ante lucíferum nui te.

       A prince from the day of your birth on the holy mountains;

from the womb before the dawn I begot you.

Iurávit Dóminus, et non pœnibit eum:

Tu es sacérdos in ætérnum secúndum

órdinem Melchísedech.

The Lord has sworn an oath he will not change.

‘You are a priest for ever, a priest like Melchizedek of old’.

Dóminus a dextris tuis:

confrégit in die iræ suæ reges.

The Master standing at your right hand

will shatter kings in the day of his wrath.

Iudicábit in natiónibus, implébit ruínas:

conquassábit cápita in terra multórum.

He, the Judge of the nations, will heap high the bodies;

heads shall be shattered far and wide.

De torrénte in via bibet:

   proptérea exalbit caput.

He shall drink from the stream by the wayside

and therefore he shall lift up his head.

Glória Patri, et Fílio:

et Spitui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son,

   and to the Holy Spirit.

Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper:

   et in sǽcula sæcurum. Amen.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

   world without end. Amen.

TUESDAY

De torrénte in via bibet:

   proptérea exalbit caput.

happy the man whom you instruct, O Lord;
to whom you teach your law.
You give him peace in evil days
while a pit is being dug for the wicked.
The Lord will not reject his people:
he will not abandon his inheritance.
Judgements will be just once more
and the upright of heart will follow them.
Who will rise up with me against the wicked?
Who will stand by my side against those who do evil?
If it were not for the Lord’s help,
I should quickly find myself in the land of silence.
Whenever I said, ‘My feet are slipping,’
your loving kindness, O Lord, held me upright.
In the midst of my heart’s troubles,
your consolations gave me back my happiness.
The unjust tribunal can never be your friend,
whose judges do evil against the law.
They attack the life of the just
  and condemn innocent blood.
The Lord is my stronghold,
  the rock where I shelter.
He will pay them back for their wickedness,
  scatter them in their malice,
the Lord our God will scatter them.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
  and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,

domináre in médio inimirum tuórum.
