‘I will rejoice in you and be glad, I will sing psalms to your name, O Most High.’ (Psalm 9)
The monastic community celebrates the Divine Office and Mass together each day in the Abbey Church.
In addition to being the monastic community’s church, Buckfast Abbey is a parish church within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Plymouth. The parish is in the care of the monks and parish Masses are celebrated in three Mass centres in neighbouring villages, in addition to those in the Abbey itself. Below are listed both the monastic services and the parish services in the Abbey Church and other Mass centres. Occasionally, times of services are changed because of special circumstances, and there are particular timetables at Christmas and Easter, so you may like to check the ‘What’s On’ page for details if you plan to attend, particularly if you are traveling some distance.
Sung Conventual Mass
PLEASE NOTE: There will be no public Compline on Friday 3rd and Sunday 5th October owing to Abbey Choir recording sessions taking place in the church. This means the church (and the Blessed Sacrament Chapel) will close at 19:00 on Friday 3rd and 16:00 on Sunday 5th with no public access.
