We’re looking for our next Awesome Addition to join the Kitchen team at Buckfast Abbey.

If you’re passionate about food, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and want to build a career in catering and hospitality, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

As a Production Chef Apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience whilst studying towards a nationally recognised Level 2 Production Chef qualification. You’ll learn how to prepare, cook and present high-quality dishes, work with recipes and menus, maintain food safety standards and become a valued member of a busy professional kitchen.

What you’ll be doing

As part of our friendly Kitchen team, you’ll help create exceptional food experiences for our guests by:

Preparing ingredients and assisting with food production
Cooking and presenting dishes to a high standard
Following recipes and production plans accurately
Helping maintain consistency, quality and portion control
Maintaining excellent food hygiene and cleanliness standards
Following food safety, health and safety, and allergen procedures
Organising and storing ingredients correctly
Working closely with chefs and hospitality colleagues
Supporting service during busy periods and special events
Learning sustainable kitchen practices and reducing waste
Developing professional cooking techniques and culinary skills
Helping deliver a positive dining experience for every guest

No two days are ever the same. One day you could be preparing ingredients for a busy lunch service, and the next you might be supporting a conference, event or special function while learning new culinary techniques.

Who we are looking for 🔎

You don’t need previous hospitality experience. We’re looking for someone who:

  • Qualifications required: English and Maths GCSE minimum of Grade 3 and above are preferable. (These qualifications can be achieved during the course, so this isn’t essential)
  • Has a genuine interest in food and cooking
  • Has a positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Enjoys working as part of a team
  • Has good communication skills
  • Is reliable and hardworking
  • Can stay calm and professional in a busy environment
  • Takes pride in providing excellent customer service
  • Is enthusiastic, proactive and ready to get stuck in
  • Has good attention to detail
